When you develop asbestos lung cancer as a result of paid employment or while serving in the armed forces you could be entitled to benefits. The thing of it is that, for example, the U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs does not recognize mesothelioma as a service-connected medical condition. Therefore, if you are a veteran diagnosed with the asbestos disease mesothelioma the VA will refuse to treat you unless you can provide undeniable proof that the cancer was caused by exposure to asbestos while in service.
Another source for mesothelioma information is your local Asbestos Victims Support Group. They will be able to give you mesothelioma advice about which expert solicitors to consult. Also, the Association of Personal Injury Lawyers and the Law Society can put you in contact with an experienced mesothelioma attorney in your area.
Given that the causes of asbestos diseases are very complex you should get assistance from a specialist, either a asbestos cancer lawyer or a mesothelioma lawyer, who has experience with how to deal with your claim.

There are two types of mesothelioma treatments for mesothelioma- curative and palliative.
The purpose of curative treatments is to remove all cancer cells and cure the disease. For palliative treatments, the purpose is to make the patient comfortable and ease the pain.
Treatments range from radiation therapy, chemotherapy, and surgery to alternative, and experimental, procedures such as immunotherapy and gene therapy. However, in most cases the mesothelioma advice for the patient will be to receive a combination of all treatments starting by undergoing surgery to remove tissue which has been affected by the cancer and thereafter receiving radiation therapy, or chemotherapy, to kill any remaining cancer cells.
Exposure to asbestos and the effects of the exposure to this substance has caused grief and pain for many people with asbestos related disease and although the dangers were known for a long time efforts to protect those that were exposed were minimal or non existent.

The common symptoms of mesothelioma are chest pain, shortness of breath, and a persistent cough. Yet, there are patients who have been diagnosed with mesothelioma that did not show any symptoms at all.
Other symptoms of mesothelioma are weight loss, bowel obstruction, abdominal pain and swelling, swelling of the neck or face, trouble swallowing, anemia, blood clotting problems, fever, and pleural effusion (water in the lungs).
The biggest problem is that mesothelioma is difficult to diagnose and a mesothelioma prognosis hard to make. First, there are similar symptoms of less serious diseases that can add to the confusion. And second, it remains latent in the body for up to fifty years and it is usually not found until it is too late.
To be more accurate in the mesothelioma diagnosis, the doctor or researcher will compile the patient’s complete work and medical history to try to exactly pin point where the exposure to asbestos took place. Medical tests and examinations are performed including MRI and CT scans, as well as x-rays. There are biopsy procedures to test for the presence of cancer cells.
